The Story
After his six years with the seminal John Coltrane Quartet, the master drummerĀ Elvin JonesĀ signed with Blue Note in 1968 and began building his own career as a bandleader. His first two albums for the label were spare trio outingsāPuttinā It TogetherĀ andĀ The Ultimateāboth featuring saxophonistĀ Joe FarrellĀ and bassist Jimmy Garrison. For his next albumā1969ās unfettered post-bop explorationĀ Poly-CurrentsāJones expanded his ensemble with additional woodwinds and percussion while still maintaining spacious realms for the musicians to delve into on modal band member originals including āAgenda,ā Agappe Love,ā āMr. Jones,ā and āWhew.ā Jones is joined throughout by a cast that includes Farrell on tenor saxophone, English horn, and flutes,Ā George ColemanĀ on tenor saxophone,Ā Pepper AdamsĀ on baritone saxophone,Ā Fred TompkinsĀ on flute,Ā Wilbur LittleĀ on bass, and Cuban congueroĀ Candido Camero.
UHQ-CDās reproduce the sound of original master tapes as faithfully as possible by utilizing new transfer technologies and improved materials to produce high-quality sound with a better representation of the whole stage. UHQ-CDs comply with CD standards and can be played on existing players. Each title is presented in a UHQ-CD jewel case with an obi-strip and the original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay.
