The Story

Grant GreenĀ had already recorded a prolific 10 sessions of classic hard bop and soul jazz for Blue Note over a 2-year span by the time he arrived at Van Gelder Studio in 1962 to record his albumĀ The Latin Bit. The concept of the album was a departure for Green with the guitarist exploring Latin and Brazilian influences with a band featuringĀ Johnny AceaĀ on piano,Ā Wendell MarshallĀ on bass,Ā Willie BoboĀ on drums,Ā Carlos "Patato" ValdesĀ on conga, andĀ Garvin MasseauxĀ on chekere. As Nat Hentoff wrote in the album’s liner notes: ā€œIt is because of Green’s remarkably consistent ease in many varieties of material, that this album of jazz with a Latin tinge becomes so seamless a blending of Latin idioms and blues-laced, modern mainstream swinging.ā€ The highly enjoyable set includes joyful takes of ā€œMambo Innā€ and ā€œMy Little Suede Shoes,ā€ as well as a lyrical and beguiling version of ā€œBesame Mucho.ā€

UHQ-CD’s reproduce the sound of original master tapes as faithfully as possible by utilizing new transfer technologies and improved materials to produce high-quality sound with a better representation of the whole stage. UHQ-CDs comply with CD standards and can be played on existing players. Each title is presented in a UHQ-CD jewel case with an obi-strip and the original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay.
