The Story
Two months after recording what would become his hit recordĀ The Sidewinder, trumpeterĀ Lee MorganĀ returned to Van Gelder Studio in February 1964 to create his masterful albumĀ Search for the New Land.Ā For the session Morgan assembled a sextet consisting of several young stars of the Blue Note roster includingĀ Herbie HancockĀ on piano,Ā Grant GreenĀ on guitar, andĀ Wayne ShorterĀ on tenor saxophone, along with the dynamic rhythm team of bassistĀ Reggie WorkmanĀ and drummerĀ Billy Higgins. The album opens with the expansive 16-minute title track, a musical odyssey that alternates a shimmering rubato theme with a loping exploration by each soloist. Four more indelible Morgan originals follow including jaunty numbers such as āThe Jokerā and āMorgan the Pirate,ā as well as the plaintive ballad āMelancholee.ā
UHQ-CDās reproduce the sound of original master tapes as faithfully as possible by utilizing new transfer technologies and improved materials to produce high-quality sound with a better representation of the whole stage. UHQ-CDs comply with CD standards and can be played on existing players. Each title is presented in a UHQ-CD jewel case with an obi-strip and the original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay.
