The under-recognized tenor saxophonistĀ Clifford JordanĀ blew in from Chicago in 1957 and recorded a trio of excellent Blue Note sessions over a prolific 8-month span including the self-titled albumĀ Cliff Jordan. Jordanās 2nd date for the label was a generous serving of smoldering bop featuring a robust septet withĀ Lee MorganĀ on trumpet,Ā Curtis FullerĀ on trombone,Ā John JenkinsĀ on alto sax,Ā Ray BryantĀ on piano,Ā Paul ChambersĀ on bass, andĀ Art TaylorĀ on drums. The band stretches out on extended takes of Jordanās āNot Guilty,ā Jenkinsā āSt. John,ā and Fullerās āBlue Shoesā before an 18-year-old Morgan takes the spotlight on his tune āJu-Baā to close the set.
